About dual band usage:

This is a dual band WiFi dongle, adopts the newest WiFi standard 802.11ac, perfect match with any dual band WiFi routers to offer you two WiFi mode options of 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz. But there are something you should know before you make a complaint about speed.

1. You must have a dual band WiFi router with 5G band if you want to have a 5.8G signal.

2. The max. speed up to 433Mbps just works when you connect to 5G band, otherwise, it will just run at the max. speed of 150Mbps with 2.4G.

3. This WiFi adapter will not boost the speed of original router, it just transmit the wifi signal.

4. If your WiFi adapter is closed to the router, and you want to have fast speed in watching video and playing online games, we suggest that you should connect to the 5G band. If your WiFi adapter is far away from the router, and you just want to surf the website, you’d better connect to 2.4G band for better and stable signal.

Worked seconds after plugging it in on Windows 10 – no need to install drivers.

I had to work a bit harder to get it to work under Linux. The device is actually a Realtek RTL8812AU / 8821AU device and it requires compilation of kernel drivers to get going (at least on Ubuntu) Once I had the drivers compiled, again the device worked flawlessly. It’s fast and has good signal strength with the external antenna. Very happy.

This seems a good bit of kit. It’s working well on a Mac mini 2009 with macOS 10.13 High Sierra, which breaks the Mac mini’s built-in wireless card.

As others have said, a tray-type CD drive is needed to read the little driver CD. You can download drivers from the link provided, but for macOS I found the choice of downloads a bit confusing. The CD is simpler because it gives only one choice.

If you’re on macOS, once the driver is installed and the adapter plugged in, look for a new icon in your menu bar and click it to connect to Wi-Fi. Preoccupied with the settings in System Prefs > Networks, I initially missed the menu bar and thought it wasn’t working. The menu bar icon is green, and there’s no way to change this, but it’s not obtrusive.

I haven’t tested this on any network other than basic 802.11g, and even then I’m not sure it’s more sensitive than the Mac’s built-in Wi-Fi.But other people seem to report very good wireless range.

I wanted to take sometime to actually fill out one of these reviews for a product that I bought to help me connect a desktop PC upstairs to my Internet.

I have been recently using powerline adapters but my house is very old and I wasn’t getting the best connection with dropouts being a regular issue for me. I work on websites and remote server jobs so I need something to keep me connected.

Now if this helps or not but my motherboard is about 5years old now drivers are no longer available after windows 7 so I am working on windows 10, which I feel goes to saying something about this product.

It comes in a nice small box with easy to follow images and a little disc which has the drivers on but for me I didn’t even need to touch the disc as I placed my wireless adapter straight into a USB port and it picked it up straight away and here I am writing to you lot on a wirelss enabled dekstop PC.

I suggest trying this out before thinking about cabling your house or even using powerline adapters as they are more expensive than this product is.
