Marcella season 3: Everything you need to know

Contains spoilers for Marcella season two.

Marcella season two was, er, how should we put it, pretty hard-going to watch, wasn’t it? There were some seriously dark themes running through the series and while viewers were hooked on the show, many found it challenging to stick with.

The series, starring Anna Friel, has been a success for ITV, despite its upsetting storylines, and it seems like another instalment could be on the cards.

Here’s everything you need to know about a possible season three of Marcella

Marcella season 3: Is Marcella coming back?

Season two ended on a fair few cliff hangers. Marcella, after giving custody of her kids up, assaulted DI Rav Sangha then slashed her own face in a Joker-esque way and started sleeping rough.

Marcella was approached and asked to go undercover – turns out she’d been accidentally pronounced dead at the scene of a house fire, so is in a good position to do some espionage.

All of the above suggests Marcella will be back for a third season so those loose ends can be picked up, and the show’s writer Hans Rosenfeldt has confirmed that.

He told RadioTimes.com:

“Yes, this was all a bit of a set up for series three, when Marcella actually goes undercover. That is about [all the information] we have, what we know about series three, if we ever get it. I have no idea when [ITV] are going to confirm if they want [it].

It’s basically up to them and, of course, to see if we can get people back.”

Marcella season 3: When is it on TV?

No date has been confirmed yet, however series one was broadcast in April 2016 and a second season was announced in August that year. Series two aired in February, so if past events are anything to go by, we may have a series three announcement soon. Let’s hope there’s not a two year wait before it’s on TV.
