Meghan Markle makes a statement about feminism on her official Duchess of Sussex information page

Following her wedding to Prince Harry on Saturday 19 May, Meghan Markle has become a fully-fledged member of the royal family, to be known officially as the Duchess of Sussex.
To reflect this, the royal family’s website now features an information page about the Duchess, similar to those profiling the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and it makes a real statement about her intentions.

As well as including information about her childhood and her duties as a member of the royal family, the page makes it clear Meghan is passionate about tackling world injustice and in particular works to end gender inequality. One quote of the Duchess’ reads: “I am proud to be a woman and a feminist”. The page also details that the Duchess of Sussex has been working to challenge gender inequality since she was a child.

Aged 11 she successfully campaigned for a company to alter their television advert that had used sexist language to sell washing-up liquid. The bio also explains that Her Royal Highness volunteered at a soup kitchen in Los Angeles from the age of 13-17. She continued to volunteer at the soup kitchen when she would return home to Los Angeles until the age of 22.

In 2015, she became the UN Women’s Advocate for Women’s Political Participation and Leadership.

Her Royal Highness became involved with the organisation One Young World in 2014 when she was asked to become a Counsellor for the charity.
