Aldi is launching six new wines and they’re under £5 a bottle

From the launch of 10 newgins to the arrival of this festive liqueur, Aldi’s drinks range has gone from strength-to-strength in recent weeks. Now there’s even more good news from the discount retailer.

The supermarket has unveiled a collection of six new wines that are designed to be paired with six different classic dishes. Named the This...Loves range, each wine features a recognisable grape type along with a food-pairing suggestion. Best of all, they come with affordable price tags at £4.99 a bottle.

There are three whites to choose from: a Chenin Blanc, which Aldi’s wine expert wine expert suggests drinking with fish and chips, “as it provides both texture and crispness”. The Pinot Grigio is meant to be paired with fish, vegetables, pasta or sushi while the Chardonnay is ideal with chicken, salmon, salads or seafood.

As for the reds, there’s a Sangiovese, which is said to go well with pizza and tomato-based pasta, thanks to its red and black cherry flavours. The Malbec Shiraz is perfect with steak and the Monastrell Petit Verdot is best served with lamb, spicy pork, stews or hard cheeses.

“A lot of shoppers find food and wine pairing intimidating, especially when faced with a wall of wine in some supermarket aisles,” Aldi’s wine expert Sam Caporn commented.  “Aldi’s This…Loves range of wines features great tasting, approachable and food friendly bottles that have been created with food-loving consumers in mind.”

The This...Love range is in Aldi stores nationwide now, with the Pinot Grigio arriving in late October. You’ll need to be quick to snap it up though, as these wines are only available while stocks last.
