Meghan Markle follows in Kate Middleton’s footsteps by showing us how to play sport in heels

Meghan Markle showed off her sporting skills in a pair of towering high heels like a true duchess as she and Prince Harry attended the Coach Core Awards held at Loughborough University this afternoon (24 September).

A video clip posted on Twitter by royal correspondent Rebecca English featured the Duchess of Sussex effortlessly spinning around in heels and passing the ball to apprentices as she took part in their drills and team games – and we're guessing Meghan may have been a demon on the netball pitch back in the day.

And the former actress was following in the footsteps of fellow duchess Kate Middleton, who is renowned for her sporting prowess, even in wedge sandals or heeled boots and a pencil skirt.

In 2012, the Duchess of Cambridge gave members of St Andrew's school's hockey team a run for their money in heeled boots and a dress as she visited the school in Pangbourne, Berkshire.

Back in 2014, Kate played cricket like a pro in court heels and a red peplum suit during her tour on New Zealand with Prince William. And in 2016, she played cricket and completed an obstacle course with a football in wedge sandals.

Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan were meeting with honorees from Coach Core, a program that trains young people to become coaches and encourages the next generation of athletes. The apprenticeship programme helps young people (16-24 years old) who are not in education, employment or training to build a career.

The duke and duchess watched masterclasses from sports stars such as marathon runner Paula Radcliffe, British tennis star Laura Robson and England netballer Eboni Beckford-Chambers.

They will then attend the awards ceremony, which will celebrate the achievements of young people who have taken part in this life-changing programme.

The duchess, who was debuting a new straight hairstyle, also wore a navy Oscar De La Renta draped blouse with black flared trousers by Altuzarra.

Meghan will mark her first solo engagement tomorrow as she attends the opening of 'Oceania' at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
