Last weekend of Port Vale discount season tickets – and club hopes to pass last year's total – Stoke-on-Trent Live

Port Vale are into the final weekend for early bird discount season tickets - and they have already passed 3,000 sales.

Vale owner Carol Shanahan confirmed that the club had sold 3,075 by late afternoon yesterday.

That figure doesn't include hospitality tickets which were included in last year's 3,500 for total season ticket sales.

The ticket office will be open this weekend for a final chance to get the cheapest deals; from 9am-5pm today and 10am-4pm tomorrow, when Shanahan will be on hand herself to meet fans.

Port Vale return to work

Connell Rawlinson and Ben Whitfield were among those to report back when Vale started pre-season training at St George's Park yesterday..

The pair has been made available to other clubs but have a year left on their contracts and John Askey has said he will consider them if they don’t move on.

Danny Pugh in the back-room team

Danny Pugh was at Burton among the management staff on the first day back.

John Askey had said he was expecting the former Stoke player to be part of the backroom staff again and he took his place next to the manager and Dave Kevan to put the squad through its paces.

And he was put through pace himself too.

Mike Baggaley was there, thankfully just watching, and reported: "Danny Pugh is obviously still fit as a flea. He is getting through the later stages of this yo-yo test.

"The test is a real punishing exercise. It measures endurance as the players have to sprint, stop, and sprint again on a beep. It has been going some time now and is taking its toll.

"The players are dripping with sweat as they get a couple of seconds rest before starting again."

You can look back at Mike's blow-by-blow account of a very sweaty day.

Danny Pugh looks on as Port Vale players report back for pre-season training at St George's Park, Burton ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Chris Banks returns to Vale

Former Vale player Chris Banks has returned to the club as the new head physio.

Banks has spent more than a decade working for Stoke City but returns to Vale Park as part of John Askey's backroom team.
