Manchester United scrap plans to increase junior ticket prices – Manchester Evening News

Manchester United have reversed a decision to hike up junior ticket prices after discussions with Manchester United Supporters’ Trust.

Previously, the club had a policy where members would receive a £5 discount on tickets but had decided to scrap the scheme for the coming season.

Fans were angry about the decision to scrap the members' discount and following discussions between the club and MUST the decision has been reversed for junior tickets.

However, adult tickets will only have the discount applied when they go on general sale.

The move was welcome by MUST who had negotiated with the club after fans expressed their anger over the decision.

“We see this as an important move as we have been involved in a long-standing campaign to rejuvenate the crowd at Old Trafford and certainly don't want to see any changes that discourage young fans attending,” a MUST spokesman said.

“The average age has been steadily rising over many years and no doubt this has had an impact on atmosphere decline. The next generation of loyal fans tend to get hooked as juniors so clearly keeping prices low for juniors is crucial.”

“Naturally we'd have preferred a complete reversal of the decision for all members but it is good to see the club listening to MUST on issues like this which affect our match-going fans, especially the next generation we want to encourage.”

The club believe their junior pricing across the board is competitive but have agreed to listen to the fan group and reverse their earlier decision.

“At Manchester United we appreciate the support of our younger fans and we are committed to helping them to watch live, affordable football,” a club spokesman said.

“Following feedback from a small number of fans regarding a revised Under 16 membership offer, and after discussion with MUST, we have reviewed the terms and we can confirm that for this age group, £5 discount on all match tickets will continue be offered this season.  For all other members, discount will continue to be offered for matches that go on general sale.”
