Crewe Alex fans react strongly to Aston Villa cup tie ticket prices – Cheshire Live

Crewe Alex fans have taken to social media in reaction to the ticket prices set for the Carabao Cup tie against Aston Villa later this month.

The Railwaymen 's penalties win at Middlesbrough on Tuesday has earned them a visit from the Premier League side in the second round, on Tuesday, August 27 (7.45pm).

Club chiefs will be hoping for a bumper gate, with Villa expected to bring more than 2,000 supporters to Gresty Road for the first meeting between the sides since 1989.

But the Alex's announcement of the ticket prices set for the game, which have to be agreed by both clubs. has promoted a strong response.

Many fans are upset that adults will be charged £22 for a seat in the Main Stand or £20 for the Gresty Road End - the same as a normal league game.

And there is no discount for season ticket holders or members.

As ever, Twitter was the platform for the discussion.

Other prices for the game, which is likely to see manager Dean Smith rotate his Villa side but still be able to put out a strong team due to the depth of his squad, are: Senior citizens (£17 main stand, £15.50 Gresty Road End), 12-16 years (£10.50-£9.50), under 11s (£6.50-£6), disabled (£17-£15.50).

While the majority of people who took to social media to have their say about the issue felt the prices were too steep, there were others who felt the prices were fair.

With the Alex holding a fans' forum at Gresty Road tonight (Thursday, 6.15pm) there is bound to questions asked of chairman John Bowler and fellow board members.

We will be bringing you reaction on a live blog later.
