Deal of the week: Sainsbury's 10p off per litre of fuel for bank holiday – Moneywise Magazine

What’s the deal exactly?

Sainsbury’s customers can get 10p off a litre on fuel when they spend £60 or more on groceries at a Sainsbury’s supermarket.

The offer runs until Tuesday 27 August, with coupons valid for 14 days after the transaction.

Qualifying customers will receive a coupon at the checkout which they can redeem at one of 306 Sainsbury’s forecourts.

The discount can be used to fill up on unleaded petrol, super unleaded petrol, diesel or LPG up to a maximum of 100 litres.

Why should I care?

The price of petrol went up in July and experts have warned it could go higher.

Petrol prices rose by 1.55p in July, while diesel prices went up by an average of 1p, according to data from the RAC.

This means a tank of petrol now sets drivers back £71.07 compared to £70.21 at the end of June. For diesel the difference is just 51p with a complete fill-up increasing to £72.57.

The high price of fuel is a constant issue for motorists, so this is a good opportunity to save money.

Customers will also be able to collect Nectar points every time they fill-up, with one point awarded for every litre purchased.

What’s the catch?

The offer does not include pay at pump machines, ruling out stores in Hazel Grove, Hawick, Whitehouse Farm, Livingston, Dartmouth, Ely, Sudbury and Faversham.

There are some restrictions on this offer that customers need to be aware of.

The offer excludes spirits and liqueurs, fuel, first stage baby milk products, National Lottery, tobacco, gift vouchers, gift cards, prescription medicines, over the counter medicines, postage stamps, savings stamps, mobile phone vouchers, travel money, phonecards, e-topup, PayPoint payments, charity products, carrier bags, cafe transactions and car park tickets.

What other options do I have?

Morrisons is offering a deal of 5p off a litre of petrol or diesel if you spend £40 or more, which runs until 25 August.

Tesco is also offering 10p off fuel when shoppers spend £60 or more until 25 August.

Even with the offer it is wise to find out where the cheapest petrol stations are. Use a comparison tool, such as Confused or PetrolPrices to find the cheapest fuel near you.
