Morrisons is cutting 5p a litre off fuel for a limited time, here's how to claim the discount – Biggleswade Today

Supermarket chains Sainsbury’s and Morrisons have announced competing money off promotions at their fuel filling stations.

Yesterday, Morrisons launched a 5p per litre reduction offer for shoppers and Sainsbury’s has now announced it will offer drivers 10p per litre off if they do their grocery shopping in its stores.

The two offers follow a similar promotion from Tesco, which has been running throughout August.

To qualify for either discount customers need to spend a certain amount on groceries, after which they will be given a voucher that they can redeem the next time they fill up.

To claim the Morrisons voucher shoppers must spend £40 or more in store, while the Sainsbury’s offer applies to in-store or online purchases of £60 or more.

Shoppers can claim the Morrisons coupons from Monday, August 19 to Sunday, August 25, while the Sainsbury’s promotion begins on Thursday, August 22 and ends on Tuesday, August 27.

The Morrisons money-off vouchers will remain valid until Sunday, September 1 while Sainsbury’s customers can redeem them any time up to 14 days after their qualifying shop.

The deal means a driver filling an average family car’s 55-litre fuel tank can save between £2.75 and £5.50 per fill-up.

Conditions

As is usual with such promotions there are conditions on how you can claim and use the discount vouchers.

Sainbury’s shoppers can claim a voucher for any transaction of £60 or more in store (excluding Central and Local stores) or online, however, the Morrisons offer only applies to in-store purchases.

Both promotions only offer one voucher per transaction, no matter how much more than the minimum spend your shopping costs.

Certain products also don’t count towards the value of shopping, including fuel, tobacco, Lottery products, gift cards, infant/formula milk, cash-back, dry cleaning, fireworks, online Games and instant tickets, photo printing, saver stamps, postage stamps, mobile phone top-up cards, payPoint payments, delivery charges, garden centre, cafe and pharmacy purchases.

Claiming the discount

The vouchers are valid for any single transaction buying petrol, diesel or LPG up to a maximum of 100 litres at any of the relevant chain’s branded filling stations.

You can only use one coupon per fill up and they are only valid for one vehicle, so you can’t try and fill two cars in the same transaction.

They also don’t work at pay-at-pump for either chain – you have to present the coupon at the kiosk when you pay for your fuel.

The offers comes after a jump in petrol prices in July undid much of the savings brought about by a price drop in June.

According to RAC Fuel Watch, the average price of a litre of unleaded currently stands at 128.74p, with diesel at 131.88p.
