Matches Fashion Black Friday 2019 sale – what discounts to expect – harpersbazaar.com

It might be over a month away, but Matches Fashion’s Black Friday sale is already in our calendars.

With a multitude of womenswear, footwear, jewellery and homeware brands available, the luxury e-tailer is a one-stop shop for all things luxury. (Although you can also find some more affordable mid-tier brands and demi-fine pieces.) Still, when the sale rolls around everything will seem more affordable – Matches slashed its prices by up to 50 per cent last year.

We’re expecting much of the same this year which means, come 29 November, you’ll be able to shop discounted designer pieces from the likes of Gucci, Chloé, Saint Laurent as well as absolute steals from brands such as By Far, Danse Lente and Ganni.

It’s not as straightforward as it sounds though. Unlike with a blanket discount, red ticket sales can be very chaotic – so make sure you plan ahead.

Our top tips? Be disciplined, know what you’re looking for and don’t get distracted until those must-haves are safely in your basket. Question your purchase intent: do you really need that item, or does it just have short-term, Instagram-prompted appeal? Which items will serve you for years to come?

And if you’re really keen, we recommend getting up early on the big day to catch the best bits. Buzzy items and specific sizes will sell out fast. In the meantime, we’ll keep you updated on the best deals.

We earn a commission for products purchased through some of the links in this article.

If you can’t wait another second longer to shop (October is here, winter coats and boots are now a necessity), shop Matches Fashion’s current sale now. We’ve rounded up some of our favourite bits right here:

What is Black Friday?

So, what exactly is Black Friday? Well, it’s fairly new to the UK. The annual sale originated in America and only travelled across the pond in 2010. It’s grown in popularity ever since, with both luxury and high-street brands now taking part. In fact, if 2018 is anything to go by, Black Friday has overtaken Boxing Day as the biggest retail event of the year.

It does make sense, since a pre-Christmas sale is far more helpful to consumers. It’s ideal for party dress shopping and gifting (no one wants to see their thoughtful gift slapped with a red clearance sticker a mere day after they’ve gifted it).

When is Black Friday?

Black Friday usually falls on the fourth weekend of November which, this year, is the 29th. The date is determined by the US holiday Thanksgiving and always takes place the day after. If you’re lucky, though, most fashion brands will begin their sales a little earlier than the big day and continue them through until Cyber Monday. Plenty of time for browsing, then.

Will Matches take part in Black Friday 2019?

Matches Fashion hasn’t confirmed whether it’s getting involved in Black Friday 2019 but, if last year is anything to go by, we’re expecting a big sale over the Cyber weekend. Like its competitors Selfridges and Net-a-Porter, the e-tailer may choose to avoid the term ‘Black Friday’ but still discount items on the same dates.

What was on sale last year?

Matches slashed prices by 50 per cent on Black Friday 2018, so we’re expecting something along the same lines for this year’s event. Although, be warned, a select few brands may choose to opt out of department-store sales.

What should I look out for on Black Friday?

Shop smart on Black Friday and think about what you need. But, then again, take the opportunity to treat yourself to buzzy items that you may not be able to afford otherwise. We’ll just leave the Harper’s wish list here with you…

It pieces

This season Paco Rabanne returns to its ’60s space age heyday with a collection packed with silver paillettes, chainmail and all things metallic – the shimmering clutch bags and party dresses are perfect for the festive season. If in doubt, shop anything Bottega by new creative director Daniel Lee.

Savvy shoppers will use this time to invest in their staple wardrobe. It’s not all knitwear and T-shirts though (although Les Tien’s mock-neck tees fit like a dream), timeless blazers and little black dresses qualify.

If you can hold out to buy winter boots for a few months, it’ll be well worth the wait. Ann Demeulemeester’s signature Victoriana boots are selling like hotcakes thanks to their on-trend lace-up fastenings. Feeling more frivolous? Bottega Veneta’s quilted mules are a street style favourite – we’ve spotted them on Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Lisa Aiken, Pernille Teisbaek and Beatrice Gutu.

Fashion meets interiors on Matches Fashion. You can shop the likes of Gucci, House of Hackney and Preen by Thornton Bregazzi’s homewares on there. Anissa Kermiche‘s Insta-famous ceramics (Monikh Dale, Leandra Medine, Pandora Sykes and Camille Charriere are all fans) are right at the top of our wish list.
