Excellent green colourTurbo Seed's improved year-round stress-tolerance creates a healthy, thriving turf with better resistance to weed invasion and improved tolerance to disease. Compared to traditional varieties of perennial ryegrass, Turbo Seed becomes greener sooner, and stays greener for longer. | Reduces dog patchesThe Turbo Seed mixture has been carefully selected to ensure only dog pee resistant varieties are used. Over a hundred varieties of seeds, from seven different species have been tested, with the most resistant varieties selected. Turbo Seed is ideal for pet lovers, whether it's for a new lawn, or for over-seeding dog patches. | Exceptional cold-tolerance for year-round green turfAvern's Turbo Seed has exceptional winter performance. Varieties chosen have better stress-tolerance and recover faster after periods of extreme temperatures and disease attack | Increased salt toleranceWhether the salinity is due to salt in the soil, the nearby sea or the irrigation water, Avern's Turbo Seed offers better plant growth than standard grass seed mixtures. |
How soon will my lawn be ready?
Factors that affect the speed of growth
Most lawn seeds can take between 7 to 30 days to germinate in the perfect conditions. Avern's Turbo Seed is a fast-germinating seed that can start from 7 days in good conditions. However, it's important to understand the external factors that can affect the rate of growth.
Temperature & Time of Year – Optimum time is mid to late Spring or early Autumn. At this time soil temperature and moisture levels are at their best providing the fastest results. Sowing at other times will still deliver results, but germination may take longer.
Seed Bed Preparation – Preparing your seed bed is vital for fast germination. Dig the soil down to 8 inches/20 cm, braking up any lumps to ensure the soil is loose for root growth. Rolling the top is fine, but ensure the ground is not overly compacted.
Moisture– The ground needs the right amount of water, too little and your grass won't grow, too much and you seeds will wash away and seedlings will uproot. Use a fine spray to avoid washing away seeds.
Growing at different times of the year
Sowing the seeds out of peak season, can still create fantastic results, but may take a little longer, especially in colder weather.
Cover your seeds – once you have sowed your seeds, rake over and lightly cover with soil. This can keep your seeds warm, trap in moisture and make it harder for birds to eat your seeds.
Be Patient– Seeds are resilient and unlikely to die, but may take time to grow.
First Cut
We recommend that you wait until the grass has grown at least 3 inches/75mm before the first cut. Ideally until the lawn has fully established, only cut off a maximum of 20% at a time.
Once established this lawn can be cut down to 13mm/half an inch.
Top Tips for Fast Growth
- Seed at the optimum time: Mid To Late Spring or Early Autumn
- Prepare your ground, making sure the top 8 inches isn't too compact.
- Cover your seeds to protect from cold and birds
- Ensure ground is kept moist – but don't wash away your seeds
- Cut the new grass once in reaches at least 3 inches.
