Xbox Reportedly Plans to Launch New Streaming Device
Microsoft is reportedly working on a new streaming device that’ll let people access movie and TV services as well as games through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The device, which will connect to TVs and may shaped like a small stick or puck, is expected to be released in the next 12 months, reported VentureBeat on Friday.
Microsoft is also reportedly working closely with Samsun to develop and Xbox game-streaming app for the tech giant’s TVs. That’s expected to be released in a similar time frame, according to VentureBeat.
Xbox didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Microsoft has been expanding the ways people can stream games beyond its own Xbox consoles. Last week, the company struck a deal with Epic Games to offer Fortnite for free through Xbox Cloud Gaming.
The move lets people play Fortnite on phones and other devices in a way similar to how they stream videos on services like Netflix, no need for a power console or gaming PC. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs £15 a month and offers subscribers access to hundreds of games, EA Play perks and discounts, as well as Xbox Gold — £10 a month on its own — which focuses on online multiplayer games.
