10 First-Generation Porsche Panamera – £42,756
via: Porsche
When launched, the first-generation Porsche Panamera was hated by many for its quirky looks.
There was no denying the fact that it looked like a Porsche, but it lacked the outright visceral drama. But the Panamera more than makes up for it with sheer performance. If you want a fast 4-seater sedan that handles like a sports car, look no further than the Panamera.
Although it has a high average price, we’ve seen examples go for under £20,000. Related: 10 Reasons Why The Porsche Panamera Turbo S Is A Perfect Daily Driver For Gearheads
9 Porsche 944 – £13,344
via Porsche
The Porsche 944 is no 911, but it is one of the cheapest tickets to a Porsche and a classic car from the 80s. With prices ranging between £10,000 and £15,000, the non-turbo Porsche 944s are a great buy.
The 2.5-liter engine produces up to 158 hp, and the 944 is all about how it feels behind the wheel. A traditional front-engined, rear-wheel drive setup means it handles and drives exactly like you expect it to.
8 Porsche 924 Turbo – £15,064
Bring a Trailer
The 924 kindled the whole front-engined affordable Porsche cult, which continues even today. It was the first production car from Stuttgart to feature an engine up front with drive to the rear wheels.
Originally meant to be a Volkswagen, Porsche decided to sell it when they backed off from the deal. Initially, the power came from a modest VW EA831 2.0-liter engine which was mated to an Audi gearbox. The performance wasn’t brisk and Porsche turbocharged the engine, resulting in the 170hp 924 Turbo.
7 Porsche 928 S – £17,378
Mecum Auctions
The 928 was a special Porsche and was actually designed to replace the Porsche 911. We all know what happened, though.
Nevertheless, this luxury grand tourer had a futuristic design, with a 4.5-5.4-liter V8 under the hood. The later 928 S (1980-86) had many updates to the styling and is a bargain-used car buy. For approx £17,378, you get a pre-owned V8 German grand tourer that also handles like a sports car.
6 Porsche 944 Turbo – £26,771
Via: Elferspot
In 1985, Porsche decided the 944 lacks performance and decided to slap on a turbo to its 2.5-liter engine.
What resulted was the 944 Turbo, which is internally known as the 951. The engine now made 217hp for the US market, elevating the 944 into a performance model. It was the first production car in the world to feature a driver and passenger airbag as standard back in the day.
Later came the 944 Turbo S which made even more firepower and nobody complained.
5 Porsche 968 – £21,918
Bring a Trailer
The last of the transaxle cars from Porsche came in the form of the 968. It was basically an amalgamation of the 924, 928, and 944. This 2+2 coupe was powered by a 3.0 liter, four-cylinder engine that was a revamped version of the 2.5-liter mill from the Porsche 944.
There were some serious upgrades to the engine and electronics, and it made 237 hp, helping the 968 reach 60mph in 6.5 seconds with a top speed of 156 mph. If you want the best of all Porsche front-engined cars, this is the one to look for. Related: How Porsche Manages To Keep The Naturally Aspirated Engine Alive In Sports Cars

Not many know this, but the 986 Porsche Boxter S is a surprisingly affordable mid-engined sportscar you can buy used. The Boxter S is the model to get as it featured the then-new 3.2-liter flat 6 engine that was good for almost 250hp.
The Porsche Boxter S is a hoot to drive accompanied by some wind in your hair. With average prices hovering around the £18,000 mark, you will find clean examples for reasonable money.
3 987 Porsche Cayman S – £29,005
via Bring a Trailer
If you want something more serious and don’t particularly fancy wind in your hair, you’ve always got the 987 Cayman S. This first-generation Cayman S is a bargain buy today and a cheap way to find driving nirvana. The 2.7-liter flat-six mill developed 295hp with a 0-60mph sprint time of 5.4 seconds, making it a fast car by even modern standards.
Earlier cars suffered from engine reliability issues; apart from that, you could never go wrong with a well-maintained example.

The Cayenne pioneered a lot of things back when it was launched. It sparked the super SUV saga which picked off, almost a decade after its debut, and this was the car that saved Porsche from going bankrupt. Might not be the prettiest SUV out there, but the Cayenne Turbo S packed some serious punch.
The 4.8L twin-turbo V8 engine produced 513hp and 531 lb-ft, which was sent to all four wheels. That is fast even today, and this right here is an affordable-used luxury super SUV from Porsche. Related: Why The 2004 Porsche Cayenne First Edition Was An Overengineered Super SUV
1 996 Porsche 911 Carrera – £25,812
Hagerty
To end this list without featuring a Porsche 911 would be blasphemy.
So, here it is, the 996 Porsche 911 Carrera that featured the controversial ‘fried eggs’ headlights. The base Carrera used a 3.4-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six that made around 300hp, which was later bumped to 3.6-liter and 320 with the facelift in 2002.
Despite being one of the most unloved 911 generations, there is no escaping the fact that the 996 911 is an authentic sports car with serious performance and the legendary handling traits of a rear-engined car.
