BBC Bargain Hunt £8 item receives bids ‘in the hundreds’
On the latest episode of BBC Bargain Hunt an item which was bought for GBP8 received bids in the “hundreds”. Host Natasha Raskin Sharp was joined by four contestants on March 23 for the BBC show. She welcomed the red team which was made up of married couple Clive and Debbie, both retired and another married couple, David and Vijaya, who are a finance director and accountant respectively, were in the blue team.
The two teams were given GBP300 each to shop at a sale at Oswestry Showground, with whoever made the biggest profit, or smallest loss, to be declared the winner, reports Liverpool Echo. Whilst David and Vijaya’s cutlery set made a GBP5 profit, while their inkwell stand made a GBP5 loss, leaving them with a net profit of nothing. However, when it came to their item, a royal commemorative mug bought for GBP8, the bids were coming in in the hundreds thanks to the auctioneer’s sense of humour. The first bid was GBP5, to which the auctioneer said: “500, yes we have 500 pence.
Do I see 6?”, before he then saw bids of “600”, “700” and “800”. The item finally sold for GBP10, or 1000 pence as he put it. After selling their bonus item, chosen by expert Kate Bliss, the Blue Team had an overall profit of GBP18, meaning they won today’s challenge.
