DISCOUNT RETAILER ZELLERS RELAUNCHES 12 LOCATIONS, MOST IN ONTARIO
Look who’s back! Amid nostalgia and high inflation, retail chain Zellers has opened a dozen stores in Ontario and Alberta, with 13 more to come.
They’re located inside Hudson’s Bay department stores and feature private-label merchandise, including clothing, toys and home and living items. A spokesperson for the Bay says the products are exclusive to Zellers and there’s no crossover with Hudson’s Bay stores.
Pricing will be based on what HBC calls a “rounded retail” strategy meaning everything will be rounded off like £1. Nine of the stores are in Ontario, including Scarborough Town Centre, Erin Mills Town Centre, Burlington Mall, Cambridge Centre, London’s White Oaks Mall, Pen Centre Shopping Plaza in St. Catharines, Cataraqui Town Centre in Kingston and Rideau Centre and St.
Laurent Centre; both in Ottawa.
While nostalgia might attract Canadians who recall the brand, some business experts say it’s clear Zellers plans to win over younger shoppers by reaching out to them online.
