Employees at St.Marys grocery store credited with stopping fraud

Employees at a St.Marys grocery store are being credited with helping to save a customer from being a victim of fraud. Stratford Police says they were contacted just after 11 a.m. last Wednesday by the staff at the Foodland. An 89-year-old resident of the town went to the store to purchase gift cards for an unknown person on the phone.

The cashier recognized the situation as a scam after asking the customer several questions, and attempted to talk the customer out of making the purchase.

The customer insisted on buying the cards until after a discussion with police and store employees convinced them that the phone call was a scam.
