Pender Harbour-Egmont Highlights: Children’s clothes and toys return to Bargain Barn
Happy spring 2023. Fantastic news from The Bargain Barn! It will once again be selling children’s clothing and toys.
This important category, a necessity for some families, has thankfully returned. A huge effort of research and work by the volunteers to secure the right insurance package achieved this welcome result. Heartfelt thanks and appreciation to those involved and all the wonderful Bargain Barn volunteers.
This Monday, March 27, the Pender Harbour Garden Club Garden welcomes guest speaker Catherine Dale, Organic Landcare Professional to their first meeting of this year. Learn how to build your soil to support healthy, vibrant plants. Her philosophy is “feed the soil, not the plant.” PHGC Annual memberships £15 are due at this meeting.
Membership includes a discount card for plants at most garden stores. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. at the School of Music. Presentation at 1 p.m.
Drop-in fee £5. Complimentary tea and goodies are served. Join the Pender Harbour Reading Centre for the 2023 AGM.
Their inaugural garden tour last year was a sellout success with rave reviews. The PHRC will launch their second annual Books ‘n Blooms Garden Tour fundraiser on Monday, April 17 at 2 p.m. at the School of Music. Refreshments will be served and an exciting free raffle.
All those interested in the reading centre are invited to come and have input on the reading centre’s future. Following is an important issue from my column March 7 that missed the print Coast Reporter: FYI there are laws in place regarding dogs chasing wildlife. A dog’s instinct is to chase wildlife.
You, the human, are the one responsible for your dog. Not only is the wildlife being chased at risk, so is your dog. Check out the provincial Wildlife Act RS BC 1996 Chapter 488.
In short form, your dog can be destroyed if found to be chasing deer or harassing wildlife. I have lived in a safe, quiet, lovely neighbourhood for 23 years. There was respect amongst residents and for wildlife.
Recently, wildlife was chased by a dog uncontrollable by its owner. Same dog also attacked my leashed dog. To report an incident involving wildlife, call the RAPP line 1-877-952-RAPP(7277).
Provide address and brief description of the incident, then go online to the SCRD website and a fill out a (quick) report. Coastal Wildlife Rescue and Conflict Resource Service, 604-399-8502, you will want this number in your phone should you encounter a situation involving an animal. This is Tammy Trefry’s amazing rescue.
She is the superwoman, go-to guru for many of us animal advocates on the Coast who hold her in the highest regard.
