Ramona Woman's Club partners with students, businesses on Mardi …
Ramona High School culinary arts students have prepared the menu for Ramona Woman’s Club’s Mardi Gras Luncheon & Fashion Show. The event, which benefits the club’s Student and Community Scholarship Fund, will be held Thursday, April 13. Seating will begin at 11 a.m., giving guests the opportunity to view an array of opportunity drawing baskets.
The catered luncheon at 524 Main St. will start at 11:30 a.m. and be followed by a fashion show featuring clothing and jewelry from Glamour Girlz Boutique. Event co-chairs Marlene Dimich and Betty Shaw were treated like royalty recently when Ramona High School teacher Orlando Perez and his culinary arts students invited them to sample dishes to fit the day’s Mardi Gras theme. “Amazing,” “wonderful” and “perfect” were just some of the words Dimich and Shaw used when they talked with committee members planning the event.

After discussing the dishes the two women had sampled, the committee settled on a menu of pork tenderloin with sauce, oven roasted baby red and golden potatoes, blackened chicken with salsa, confetti rice, green salad, green and yellow zucchini, cornbread and fruit. In addition to preparing the food, students will help serve at the event. Continuing with the club’s intention to “stay local,” Ramona Country Bakery will provide three king cakes and cookies, and Sun Valley Florist will supply the table centerpieces.
Club members will model the fashions, which will be available for purchase. A percentage of the clothing sales will go toward the scholarship fund. In the past 11 years, the club has awarded more than £55,000 in scholarships to high school students graduating from Ramona schools and £8,500 to community organizations such as the Ramona Pioneer Historical Society, Friends of Ramona Library, Ramona Parks and Recreation, West End Fire Safe Council, and Friends of Ramona Unified Schools.
Tickets to the nearly sold-out show are available for donations of £25 each.
Donations of themed baskets and gift cards are welcome for the opportunity drawings that to date range from wine baskets and homemade jams to restaurant gift certificates and a massage and facial.
