Restaurant Roundup: Hot dog cart's return, pizza hunt, Easter …

March 30, 2023 The hot dog cart Let Me Frank is back to serving food this year, and its first event is this week. Owner Comet Kamolo Buum suspended operations last year a few months after starting the business.

Friday, Let Me Be Frank will be at J&L Harley-Davidson’s first Bike Night of the year. New this year is The Gut Buster, an all-beef hot dog loaded with mac-and-cheese, all-meat chili and cheese. The event will be inside the dealership at 2601 W.

60th St. N. from 6 to 8 p.m. Whiskey Rich will provide live music.

Buum will be at all of J&L’s Bike Nights, and he plans to follow more of a set schedule for lunch hours this season: Tuesdays, west-side Runnings; Wednesdays, Nyberg’s Ace at 12th and Kiwanis; Thursdays, east-side Runnings; Fridays, Fridays on the Plaza, which start in May. Sunny’s Pizzeria starts its monthlong pizza hunt Saturday.

The neighborhood pizza shop hides tokens across town and offers one clue per day before noon in the form of a photo posted on Facebook and Instagram. The token is good for a free medium pizza. Owner Jon Oppold started the promotion in the spring of 2020 when the pandemic started.

After a two-year break, Casey’s Bakery, a Dutch bakery in Sioux Center, Iowa, is having a pop-up shop at Stensland Family Farm’s central location at 3101 W.

Sioux Falls Food Tours has new tours for April joining the regular Saturday downtown food tours. Thursday’s are best bar food tours with stops at four local bars and Fridays are the Cocktail Showdown Tour. For April, the cocktail will be the Old-Fashioned, and each tour will visit three bars.

Hy-Vee on Minnesota Avenue has started carrying Bee Loved Kitchen’s vegan granola bars, cream bars and bliss balls. Items include salted caramel fig bars, peanut butter granola bars, PB&J bliss balls and cream bars in three flavors: lemon rosemary, raspberry and chocolate espresso. They’re in the Health Mart cooler section.

Here are a couple of tasty DIY ideas for Easter. The newest gourmet cookie shop in town, Cookie Co., is taking orders for Easter cookie kits. Order by April 7.

Pickup dates are April 3-8. Each £20 kit includes six mini sugar cookies, yellow buttercream frosting and assorted toppings.

LaDelle and Fourth Coffeehouse in Dell Rapids is taking orders through Friday for its take-and-bake cinnamon rolls kit. Pickup dates are April 7 or 8. You get preformed dough, cream cheese frosting, parchment paper and directions.

It’s also sells iced lattes by the gallon in any flavor. Looks like The SandBar & Grill had fun coming up with names for its Easter drink specials.

The Phillips Avenue Diner has extended its closing time on Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Windy City Bites is closing at 9 p.m. on Fridays instead of 1 a.m. It’s still open that late on Saturdays.
