The LG C1 OLED is cheaper than ever during Amazon's Spring Sale
If you’re after a superb television for next-gen gaming and watching films, this offer on the LG C1 is not to be missed. Amazon has cut the price of the 55in model from GBP899 to GBP849 as part of its Spring Sale, but you can get it even cheaper via Box’s eBay store. There, you can save a further GBP75 by using the code “CATCH20” at checkout, bringing the total price down to a mouth-watering GBP775.
That’s the cheapest we’ve ever seen one of our favourite 4K TVs in recent years, making this one of the best TV deals we’ve seen since Black Friday. View deal at Box (via eBay)
The LG C1 received five stars and our Best Buy award when we reviewed it and was also crowned our TV of the Year in 2021. It graced our best TV, best TV for gaming and best smart TV roundups for many months before finally being dethroned by its successor, the equally impressive LG C2.
It may not be able to hit the same levels of peak brightness as the C2 or the even newer C3 as it doesn’t use advanced OLED evo panel technology, but the C1 has an awful lot going for it. Picture performance is exceptional regardless of whether you’re watching SDR or HDR content, with the C1 enjoying all the benefits associated with the use of a self-emissive OLED display. Infinite contrast, deep blacks and spectacular highlights ensure that images are detailed, viewing angles are wide, and greyscale and colours are reproduced very accurately.
Motion handling is excellent, and lower-resolution content is effectively upscaled by the C1’s Alpha 9 Gen 4 processor. An in-built light sensor can be used to automatically adjust picture quality depending on the ambient light conditions in your room and near-complete coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space means the C1 is able to take full advantage of HDR’s wider colour gamut. Tone mapping is top-notch too, while Dolby Vision brings the best out of the widely supported HDR format.
You’ve also got access to one of the best smart platforms around in the form of webOS. App and streaming service provision are comprehensive, the operating system highly responsive, and navigation a doddle using the included Magic Remote. Those that like to control their TV with their voice will be pleased to find that Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri (via Apple HomeKit) are all supported.
But where the LG C1 truly stands out from the crowd is its gaming credentials. Four HDMI 2.1 ports all supporting 4K@120Hz, VRR (both Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync) and ALLM are present and correct, while the Game Optimiser mode lets you customise your experience to a pleasing degree. Response times in that mode are rapid, with an input lag of just 12ms on a 60Hz signal and 6ms on a 120Hz signal.
This ensures that games not only look great on the C1 but are buttery smooth to play. The C1 may have been usurped by the C2, which itself is likely to be superseded by the C3, but those newer models cost significantly more than their 2021 stablemate: the 55in LG C2 will set you back GBP1,179, while the C3 is listed at GBP2,099 – not far off three times as much as the C1. There are of course benefits to splashing out on the newer models, including improved brightness, picture performance and upgrades to webOS, but the LG C1 still delivers a viewing and gaming experience more than good enough for most people.
And, at this record-low price, it’s an absolute no-brainer. Stock is selling fast and there’s no telling how long the offer will last, so act soon to avoid missing out.
