Four arrested for purchasing $2000 in gift cards with stolen credit …
NORTH NAPLES, Fla. — Collier County deputies have arrested four homeless Peruvian illegal immigrants following an attempted stolen credit card fraud scheme. Jorge Farfan, Rosa Salvador, Rolando Palacios and Darleny Sevillano were all taken into custody on Monday afternoon on charges of credit card fraud, theft and false identification. “They had no ties to the community, and it appeared they came specifically to Naples and Collier County for what appeared to be a crime spree,” said Judge Blake Adams, who presided over the four’s first appearance in court Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, Farfan began the first leg of the scheme at the T.J. Maxx located on Airport-Pulling Road N in North Naples. He allegedly approached a woman shopping in the store and intentionally dropped a large amount of clothes.
As she helped him clean up the clothes, her wallet was stolen. “I need somebody,” the victim said while calling 911. “They took everything, credit card, driver license, everything, I tell you, everything,” Within minutes, the wallet’s contents were already being frauded.
Approximately £500 was used at the nearby Walmart Marketplace for a Visa gift card. “Oh my god!” added the caller. “In Walmart, they hacked the credit card.” Deputies arrested all four members of the team on scene at the North Naples shopping plaza.
While searching their vehicle, another four gift cards were found, totaling £2,000. A receipt for the cards showed four other stolen credit cards were used to make the purchases. “It’s not good,” said Rachele Love, a shopper at the plaza. “Unfortunately, I feel like a lot of these similar crimes and this state we are in is unfortunate.
More so now than ever, you have to be on guard. Constantly watching your surroundings.” Since all four inmates have immigration holds with the federal government and ICE, they will be held for 48 hrs and transported to a government facility.
They are all being held at £70,000 bond.
