Greater Charlotte Book Crawl returns for second year
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Calling all bookworms!
The Greater Charlotte Book Crawl has returned this year and features 15 bookstores, including South Main Book Company.
Starting April 1, book lovers can get Greater Charlotte Book Crawl (GCBC) passports at any of the participating bookstores.
Throughout the month, ‘crawlers’ can get a different stamp to fill their passport by visiting 15 stores from Salisbury to Rock Hill, with the main goal being to visit all stores.
The GCBC ends on April 29, which is National Independent Bookstore Day.
Each person with a completed passport will receive a special edition GCBC decal designed by Lily Clark, an artist from Davidson.
Photos of the completed passports can also be sent in to be entered into a grand prize drawing for gift cards from all of the bookstores worth £300.
Another part of this year’s GCBC is a partnership and book collection with a local nonprofit, Promising Pages, with the goal of increasing access to books for kids around the Queen City.
This is only the second year of the GCBC; which was launched as a way to promote the importance of independent bookstores and celebrate Charlotte’s growing bookstore scene.
Owner of South Main Book Company in Salisbury, Alissa Redmond, says this experience has been one of the highlights of working in the business.
“Partnering with other independent bookstores has been one of the highlights of my life as a bookseller so far,” Redmon said. “I am working incredibly hard to have our bookmobile–a Japanese fire truck–operational by April 1 so Hazelnut, South Main’s trusty shop dog, and I can visit many of the other stores in the Crawl and raise awareness around literacy promotion in the Carolinas.”
