Review: These bargain buds are the most eco-friendly gadgets I've …
Biodegradable earbuds might sound like a bit of a liability, but don’t worry, these funky little buds aren’t going to decompose in your ears. They’re cleverer than that. They’re made by the nice people at Majority, who really have gone the extra mile to set a fine example for other tech companies to follow.
Not only are their products eco-friendly, but they’ve developed their own forest alongside a reforestation organisation called Ecologi and they’ve planted nearly half a million trees as well as supporting many other sustainable projects. But their latest devices are these Tru Bio earbuds, and they’re completely sustainable because they’re made of compostable plastic. The case is also biodegradable and even the dynamic drivers are made of bio-cellulose.
It’s all very impressive.
But do they work? Well, these are priced at GBP34.95, so don’t expect Sony-quality sound but they’re actually very good. The bass is decent, the midtones are clear, and there’s a nice roundness to the sound.
The buds fit well in my ears, thanks to their classic shape and three tips being included, and the 450mah battery is good enough to keep them going for up to 30 hours, and they even come in three distinct colours.
They also sport Bluetooth 5.0 and an ultra-low game latency mode. Meanwhile an IPX7 water resistance rating ensures they’re the perfect accompaniment for an outdoor run or a sweaty gym session. The might not be the most feature-rich buds on the market, but for less than GBP35 you really can’t complain.
And you can’t put a price on their eco-credentials.
They’re certainly the most sustainable gadget I’ve ever tested.
