Honeywell Waterproof Fire Chests.
Honeywell Waterproof Fire Chests
Features and Benefits:
- 30 minute UL 350 Fire rating up to 843C.
- Waterproof for 24 hours to 1 metre depth.
- Two compression latches for added water protection.
- Protects paper documents and digital media.
Dual Compression Latches
A common feature with the Honeywell range of fire and waterproof chests is the dual compression latches on either side of the chest. These are UL rated waterproof for a minimum of 24 hours of submersion in water up to 1 metre deep (rising to 48 hours for the model 1108).
Together with the waterproof seal, it make it the ideal place to store any important personal documentation and digital media that needs to be kept dry.
The fact that the chest is also made of sturdy ABS plastic means that in the event of a flood, if the chest is stored flat it will actually float, and hence the waterproof seal will not even come into contact with water, unless the room it is stored in becomes totally submerged.
Key Lock Security
For security these chests utilise a key lock system. Two keys are provided for your convenience.
Please note however that the real function of a waterproof and fireproof chest is to secure your important legal documents which would be hard to replace in the event of a fire or flood for instance insurance certificates, wills, birth certificates or the deeds to your house. The very documents you would need following a fire or a flood!
In short these are items that are of high personal value to you, but which are worthless to a burglar.
In fact the Honeywell Fire Chest is not recommended for the storage of jewellery and high value items which you want to secure from theft, due to the very portability of the chest, and the fact that the key lock would not deter a determined criminal for long.
Convenient carry handle
The smaller chests in the Honeywell range (models 1102, 1103 and 1104) all have a convenient carry handle making them portable. These model are sized to fit under a bed.
The other two models (the 1106 and 1108) are considerably larger and fully laden can be very heavy and hence do not feature this carry handle.
Instead, they can be ordered with a specially designed wheel cart to make them portable (the 1106C and the 1108C respectively).
UL Fire Rating
All of the Honeywell Fire Chests have a minimum UL class 350 fire rating of 30 minutes at a temperature of up to 843° C (for the 1104 and 1108 this goes up to a UL 350 1 hour fire rating in a fire of up to 927° C).
As paper only ignites at a much higher temperature, this means that your important legal documents and digital media will be safe inside the chest.
In the event of a serious fire however the exterior of the chest may be damaged but the fireproof insulation will still protect the items inside.
