Planting steps:
Step 1: Treat the seeds
Seed soaking: The outer shell of the water lily seeds is hard and needs to be treated before germination. First, use sandpaper or a sharp blade to gently grind off the outer shell of the seeds (only grind off the hard shell on the surface, do not damage the inside of the seeds). Alternatively, soak the seeds directly in warm water (about 30℃) for 24-48 hours until the seed surface softens and is easy to germinate.
Step 2: Germination preparation
Germination container: Prepare a deep water container (such as a glass or basin) and fill it with clean water. Put in the seeds: Put the treated seeds in the water and make sure that the water surface submerges the seeds. You can use a small grid or string to fix the seeds on the water surface to prevent the seeds from floating. Keep warm and sunny: Place the container in a warm, sunny place with a temperature between 20-30℃. At this time, the seeds begin to absorb water and swell, and begin to germinate. The germination process may take 7-14 days.
Step 3: Transplant to soil
Prepare the soil: Prepare a container suitable for aquatic plants and add aquatic soil. The soil does not need to be too fine. It is recommended to use soil designed specifically for aquatic plants. Make sure the soil will not be washed away by water.
Transplanting seeds: When the seeds germinate and grow 1-2 leaflets, they can be gently transplanted into the prepared soil. Use your fingers to bury the buds in the soil to ensure that the seeds are stable and not easily washed away by water.
Step 4: Watering and maintenance
Watering: Pour enough water into the container, keep the water level 5-10 cm above the soil surface, not too deep (preferably within 30 cm). The water level should be around the seeds, and do not completely submerge the leaves.
Sunlight: Place the container in a sunny place. The bowl lotus likes plenty of sunlight and needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight every day.
Regular water changes and fertilization: Change the water once a week to keep the water clean. Apply fertilizer suitable for aquatic plants once a month to promote the growth of the bowl lotus.
Step 6: Care and growth
As the bowl lotus grows, trim the withered leaves in time to keep the plant healthy.
If the water quality is eutrophic or there are weeds growing, clean it up in time to prevent affecting the health of the bowl lotus.
