Potty Training Sensory Calming Wands (Green)
Potty Training Sensory Calming Wands (Green)
This is a sensory tool designed to aid releasing in early training through prolonging toilet sits and gentle distraction through sensory input. Please Note: not every child receives the sensory input the same way and if your child has a long-term pattern of withholding urine, this tool may or may not assist them, it simply depends on how the child responds to it. Most children love our wands when they are designated as a “magic potty toy” held only during poop sits! FAQs about Sensory Calming Wands to support potty relaxation: Q. Will my child become dependent on the wand in order to release? A. A comparable example would be like learning to ride a bike. A child starts off with training wheels but once they get riding successfully several times, they realize that they don’t actually need the training wheels and will happily ride without. The wands may only be used for a short time, but when you’re in the middle of potty training and it’s a highly stressful time, every hour and minute you save helps immensely. In addition, the wands have an additional rainbow light feature and can be enjoyed by kids of all ages post-potty training! Q. What stage of potty training are these wands ideal for? A. It’s ideal to begin training with the wands to override the fight or flight mode of the nervous system as early into training as possible but the wands can also help with a child who has regressed, a child who is having intermittent successes but seems reluctant or afraid to release, and especially for children who have experienced withholding trauma or a traumatic experience with potty training at any point in time. *Please Note: our wands are most helpful if your child is already comfortable sitting on the toilet. If your child is not already comfortable with merely sitting yet, it’s advisable to not introduce the wands until they are comfortable sitting and you are ready to help them release comfortably. Q. What about using a laxative for poop-withholding, wouldn’t it provide the same result? A. We absolutely do not believe these wands should be used without being confident that your child’s diet and liquid intake is most likely going to produce soft, regularly-formed stools. Stools should be a soft/normal consistency for potty training. A child should be able to pass stool when relaxed on a toilet–this tool is to aid their relaxation. Using laxatives to solve the psychological part of a withholding issue comes with risks. You risk not knowing when stool will actually come out/getting to the potty in time; you also risk creating a traumatizing experience for your child.
