SmellyGel Pro Rust Remover is our safe surface rust remover designed to remove rust stains from delicate surfaces. Other rust removers may not be suitable due to their corrosive nature. This product converts rust compounds into a water-soluble solution that changes colour when activated. The neutral pH allows for a broader range of uses, including tannin stains on render. It is our safest rust remover. If it doesn’t work, consider a stronger product from our range. How to remove rust from metal and other exterior surfaces: Always test the product on an inconspicuous area before use. Apply a generous amount directly to the dry surface. Let the product react for 10 minutes for lighter stains, or 2 hours for heavier ones. Ensure the product does not dry out during this time. The rust stain will turn purple, indicating that the product is working. This is also why we named it Smelly Gel Pro. After the reaction, rinse the area clean with plenty of water or a pressure washer. Our safe surface rust remover is also effective at removing tannin stains. A slight purple stain may remain, but it will fade over 48 hours. If the stain isn’t fully gone after the first application, you can reapply. However, we recommend trying a stronger rust remover for tougher stains. If customers are concerned about the purple staining, they can speed up fading with Sodium Hypochlorite. To avoid wasting product, do not pour directly from the bottle. Instead, dip a paintbrush into the bottle to use the right amount.
