EASTERN TRAILS: THE WESTERN AT DEFA (Masters of Cinema) Limited Edition Two-disc Blu-ray

A close relation to the Spaghetti Western, Indianerfilme (later called “Red Westerns” due to their politics)were some of the most popular genre movies produced by East Germany’s state-operated film studio, DEFA. Focusing on the struggles of indigenous tribes against European settlers, they disrupted the frontier myths central to the American Western and made a bonafide superstar of Gojko Mitić, whose appearances in a long line of action-packed Westerns for DEFAmade him one of the most famous faces in Europe. Mitić stars in all four of the films presented here: Chingachgook the Great Serpent, Fatal Error, Apachesand Blood Brothers.

Based on James Fenimore Cooper’s The Deerslayer, Chingachgook the Great Serpent sees the eponymous Mohican set out to rescue his kidnapped bride-to-be (Andrea Drahota) with the help of a hunter known as Deerslayer (Rolf Römer). In Fatal Error, Native Americans living at the foot of the Rocky Mountains come to regret doing business with the corrupt Wyoming Oil Company. Apaches follows a young warrior as he sets out to avenge the massacre of his tribe at the hands of a ruthless mercenary (Milan Beli). Finally, Blood Brothers stars Dean Reed – an actor and singer-songwriter nicknamed the “Red Elvis” – as an American deserter who comes to fight alongside a Native American tribe.

Following the enormous success of The Sons of Great Bear in 1966, East Germany’s series of Indianerfilme remained popular for the next two decades, finding enthusiastic audiences throughout Central and Eastern Europe and even as far afield as Cuba. The Masters of Cinema Series is thrilled to present a selection of DEFA’s “Red Westerns” on Blu-ray for the first time in the UK.

symantec-uk listed on couponmatrix.ukOur lives are more connected than ever, most often for the best: entertainment, knowledge, communication, work tools… Our networks and connections bring us closer to each other and the world but come with their lots of traps and disruptions! Cyberspace today hides many hazards – every week seems to bring new reports of bugs, viruses, Trojans, worms and other exotic varieties of malware designed to help penetrate our firewalls and steal our precious personal information. Ransomware is becoming an increasingly popular assault on innocent victims (this is when hackers lock one’s information until they’ve made an often hefty financial pay-out to access it). The only way for you to stay ahead of this army of scammers, hackers and phishers is to keep on top of the latest in cyber security, and Norton are leaders in the field, their name a byword for security. Norton was founded by Peter Norton, who pioneered consumer antivirus and data management utilities, launching a Norton AntiVirus 1.0 for PC and compatible computers as early as 1991. By this time, the company had been acquired by Symantec (founded in 1982), and had evolved into one of the world’s largest software companies with more than 18,500 employees in over 50 countries. The purchase has turned Symantec, still based in California, into a global leader in providing cyber security, information storage, and peace of mind. Norton Antivirus is their flagship product for home use, with millions of satisfied customers worldwide. Norton is still the market leader after all these years, winning more PC magazine editors’ awards for its services than any other company. Here at Groupon, we can’t recommend Norton highly enough, which is why we keep constantly updated offers for their services on our site – keep your computer and network secure with help from Groupon. Help ward off potential cyber threats with one of our Symantec vouchers, which give you discounted rates on a host of anti-virus and anti-malware software. They offer a diverse roster of products in fields such as advanced threat protection, backup exec, managed security services and system recovery. Their online shelves also stock code signing certificates, control compliance suites and web gateway software, all potentially available with a Symantec voucher code. Symantec offers more than simply its products - it also provides support to customers. Technical support is available on their website, as are a number of user communities who post updates on the latest technology, to help others protect their computers more effectively.
