Thanks to its innovative front-wheel drive design, transverse engine and compact dimensions, it offered a surprisingly large amount of space for four adults and set the standard for modern compact cars. In 1961, racing legend John Cooper developed a sporty version of the Mini, which became one of the most successful racing and rally cars ever. Introduced in 1964, the Mini Cooper 1275S Mk.1 won legendary victories at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 1965 and 1967, thus gaining a permanent place in motorsport history.
