The late version of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 appears as a variant kit based on article 61117 in 1/48 scale “Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6”, which represents the early production model, and is part of the 1/48 aircraft series. The kit takes over the original design, based on extensive research, as well as the optionally open or closed engine trim of the item 61117, which remains replaceable even after assembly. The model is complemented by new, authentic components to represent typical features of the late Bf 109 G-6, including the modified engine fairings, the Erla hood and 21 cm rocket launchers under the wings. About the original aircraft: With over 30,000 copies produced, the Messerschmitt Bf 109 is considered the most built fighter type in history. Within the numerous variants, the G-6 was the most comprehensive version with around 13,000 manufactured machines. Produced from summer 1943, the Bf 109 G-6 had characteristic engine fairings with a small bulge, as well as an air intake under the right hull nose (“bump”) and ballistic slots for machine guns on the upper torso nose. From the end of 1943, the Bf 109 G-6 was increasingly equipped with the so-called Erla hood, which offered improved visibility thanks to a reduced frame construction. These features were typical of many late production versions of the G-6. From August 1943, 21 cm rocket launchers were also used on both wings, which were intended to combat Allied four-engine bomber groups. The Bf 109 G-6 was deployed on both the Western and Eastern Fronts and remained in active service until the end of World War II.
