Is the Subway ‘Footlong Pass’ Worth It?

A customer stands at the counter in a Subway restaurant while a worker assembles his sandwich.

Subway has been suspiciously generous this year. February brought us nine days of BOGO free Subway footlongs; March began with a BOGO 50% off footlong deal that runs through April 30 and another limited-time BOGO free coupon for footlongs. Perhaps they’re trying to distract us from that Discovery+ documentary about their criminal ex-spokesman?

Whatever the reason, it’s been a win for you, provided you consider eating cheap Subway a win.

The company’s latest promotion is a bit different. They’ve just launched their “Footlong Pass” promotion, which will net you half off one 12-incher every day in April, but it comes at a cost: Subway is selling 250,000 Footlong Passes at £15 a pop.

How the Footlong Pass deal works

To be eligible to buy the £15 Footlong Pass, you must first be a My Way Rewards member (it’s free to join). As mentioned, there are only 250,000 of these passes available; they are first come, first served and you can only buy one of them.

They went on sale March 21, and you must purchase one by March 25 at 8 a.m. EDT. After purchase, the pass will be linked to your rewards account.

Each day in April, you’ll receive one 50% off footlong offer in your account that can be used when placing an order through the app or online. Read the full terms and conditions are here and the FAQ is here).

How to buy a Subway Footlong Pass

To pick up a pass, enter the email associated with your rewards account here. You’ll be prompted to buy the £15 pass.

You’ll be notified if you were one of the first 250,000 to secure one. If you were, starting April 1, you’ll be able to access your Footlong Pass in the Rewards & Deals section of the app, or online.

As all Subways are independently owned franchises, every location chooses their own promotions to support, never mind what corporate advertises, and your half-off offer will only be valid at participating Subway locations (here’s an easy way to check whether a certain location offers a particular promo).

How to figure out if the Subway Footlong Pass is worth it

Footlong prices vary per location and by sandwich, so the deal might not make sense for you if you don’t go often enough, live in an area where sandwiches are cheaper, or prefer to each a less pricey meal. Before you shell out that £15, do the math to figure out how much you’ll need to use the pass to save money.

For simplicity’s sake, let’s assume you tend to order a footlong Italian B.M.T. at £9. With the pass, you’ll be paying £4.50 for each sandwich for all of April. Since the pass costs £15, you’ll need to buy at least four sandwiches on four separate days to get your money’s worth.

If you weren’t able to get the Footlong Pass

If you missed out on the Footlong Pass, don’t despair.

Although it’s not as good of a deal, Subway is still offering BOGO 50% off footlongs until April 30 with the code “BOGO50” when you order from a participating Subways online or through the app.
