Bargain Hunt team do something 'special' with unexpected profit
A couple who appeared on Bargain Hunt had a touching answer when they were asked what they’d be doing with their unexpectedly big profit. In an episode that aired on BBC One today, April 3, Christina Trevanion welcomed fresh Blue and Red teams to an antiques fair in Southwell, Nottinghamshire, as she handed them GBP300 in cash and an hour to find some bargains, with the help of seasoned experts. Partners Stefan and Mariana were on the hunt for some quirky items as today’s Red team, and were given the challenge of finding an item with a mechanism, whilst married couple Chris and Abi were keeping their eyes peeled for an item from the mid 20th century.
Philip Serrell helped the Reds, whilst Roo assisted the Blues. After umming and ahing over what to spend their pretty pennies on, each team returned to Christina towards the end of the show with their haul. Stefan and Mariana had picked up a rather impressive-looking 19th century Jacobite-style glass and an antique sewing machine, which hailed from Berlin.

It was bought by the couple for GBP10, with Charles predicting it to make between GBP10-GBP15.
Despite initially failing to secure a GBP5 bid, two women relentlessly began trying to outbid each other in the auction room, and it sold for a whopping GBP80, leaving Stefan and Mariana with a huge GBP70 profit. “Wow, that’s amazing!” Christina remarked, as the Reds stood there in shock.

“I wish we could just stop time and stay there but we’ve got to carry on, we’ve got two more lots.” Unfortunately, the Reds did not have the same amount of luck with their other two items, losing GBP15 on the glass and GBP10 on the sewing machine – although they did still walk away with an overall profit of GBP67 with the additional help of Philip’s bonus buy. Meanwhile, the Blues struggled to contend with their rivals, finishing today’s show with an overall loss of GBP32, although they admitted it “could have been worse”.
At the end of the programme, Christina gathered the two teams and their experts outside to reveal the winners. Of course, the Reds were victorious, with Christina saying to Stefan as she handed him the cash: “A little dicky bird told me you were going to do something special with this money.” “Yes,” he replied. “We’d like to give it to charity – Ukrainian refugees here in the UK.” “Brilliant,” Christina said, praising the couple. “Well, very well done and thank you for being such a wonderful team.”
