Western Digital Xbox Series X|S Storage Expansion Card Leaks
The Xbox Series X|S consoles have impressive 1TB and 500GB SSDs, respectively, but with modern gaming having high storage capacity demands, your SSD can quickly fill up–especially if you subscribe to Xbox Game Pass. Up until now, Xbox owners had to purchase Seagate’s official expansion card to expand their storage. Soon that will change, as another major storage brand is releasing its own expansion card: Western Digital.
The Western Digital expansion card was spotted by Wario64 on Twitter before Best Buy took the listing down.
It’s unclear when Western Digital will reveal its Xbox Series X|S storage solution, but Best Buy’s listing stated a 1TB model will cost £180. We’ll update this post as soon as Western Digital officially unveils the card and preorders go live.
The WD Black C50 Expansion Card will seemingly be priced lower than the competition. Seagate’s 1TB Xbox memory cards usually sell for £220, although you can grab one on Amazon right now for just £190.
Alternatively, the 2TB expansion card is on sale for £360. Perhaps the new competition will usher in an era where Xbox expansion cards receive more regular and impactful discounts.
Like many of Western Digital’s other products, the WD Black C50 1TB Expansion Card features an industrial aesthetic and a plug-and-play design. Simply insert the card into the expansion slot on the Xbox Series X|S console, and you’re good to go.
Any games installed on it will benefit from the same Xbox Velocity technology that allows for Quick Resume and lightning-quick loading times, creating a seamless method for expanding your game library. It
It’s worth noting that you can use a regular external hard drive to store games, but you can’t play Xbox Series X|S games without transferring them to the Xbox’s SSD or one of the official expansion cards. You can, however, load Xbox One games from your external drive on Xbox Series X|S.
